The Junkdog Metalworks is the collective banner the Machinists Union of Thanalan (M.U.T) rally under to peddle their wares and proliferate their creations with a central focus on Automata development and a drive to compete with the likes of Skysteel Manufatory and Garlond Ironworks.Buy, sell, and trade with Union Machinists and form some worthwhile connections with the myriad talents the Jewel of The Desert has to offer!

FAQ:

Q: What is a Junker?
A: A Junker is the informal 'Job' a Union Machinist assumes when bonded with the company, one can consider a Junker [JNK] a combination of a Machinist and a Gunbreaker that specializes in mid to close range combat in concert with various Automata constructs. In truth, there's no true job crystal associated with the gig besides Francis' miscolored MCH stone.
Q: Can my character join the Union?
A: Of course! The Union is always looking to collect more prospective Junkers to Stick It To The Man™️ and expand their influence in Eorzea's southernmost provinces.
Q: Can my character have an Automaton?
A: Though it can be a complex process not many can achieve without copious amounts of trial and error — mostly error; the vaunted title of Meister can be bestowed upon any who succeed in bonding with an Automaton. Note: one does not need to necessarily be the creator of an Automaton in order to bond with one. Meisterdom can be inherited should an Automaton lose its Meister or authorize another primary handler. There are no limits to the amount of primary handlers an Automaton can have. Secondary (subcontracted) handlers are not considered to be Meisters.
Q: How can I do that?
A: There are two ways to create an Automaton: Creation and Graduation. Creation, as the name implies, is the more difficult and direct way of constructing a machine from scratch. Graduation is the simpler but more lengthy process of raising a Pawn Automaton to a point of mechanical transcendence called Graduation, to which the Pawn would then be reclassified as a Rook, Bishop, Knight, or if you're exceptionally talented; a King class Automaton.
Q: Whoa, whoah, whoah – what's this about classes?
A: Automata are categorized under the following classes;
⚙︎ Queen: the Magnum Opus, mistress of all machina the likes of which only the legendary Warrior of Light has rumored to have created. No Union Automaton has achieved this monumental exaltation. All lesser Automata embody a mere fragment of the united divinity of the Queen Automaton.⚙︎ King: a highly intelligent thinking machine categorized by its ability to commune with lesser constructs and people with exceptional ability. Though lacking in other departments, Kings are by and large central command units.⚙︎ Bishop: support-type Automata with an exceptional talent in sciences such as repair and first aid, often deferred to backline healer units capable of tending to both man and machine.⚙︎ Rook: Highly agile and exceptionally observant, the Rook class is bestowed upon Automata that display a high mobility quotient and serve dominantly as reconnaissance machina.⚙︎ Knight: the powerhouse of the cell, Knights are more often than not terse, warlike machines capable of doling out mass destruction at a blistering rate. Versatile but socially inept, the Knight is best utilized in tandem with a King or a capable Meister.⚙︎ Pawn: the humble Pawn is the most versatile and easy to create Automaton, often only capable of performing a single prescribed task with any semblance of success. Pawns are known for their comically short lifespan and disposable nature, though should they somehow survive long enough to achieve self-actualization and ambition, the Graduation process may be invoked within its core and apotheosis into a higher class may occur.⚙︎ Special/Alter: an alternative classification of Automaton given to machina that do not fall under any of the aforementioned categories. Often reserved for foreign or reclaimed machines under the wing of the Union. It is not uncommon for ceremonial, informal classifications to be bestowed upon these machines that follow the Chess or traditional game naming conventions.
